Adelaide Water and Plumbing

If you have recently moved to Adelaide and need to be sure about the quality of your tap water before you begin using it. In that case, there are a few tests that you can run on your own, or with the help of a laboratory to determine the quality of water.

Often, the plumbing of the house also plays a huge role in determining the quality of water in your taps.

If you’re experiencing a below-par quality of water in your taps, you can get it fixed here – just tap to call. In this article, we will give you a water testing guide and the different types of test formats for you to choose from. Let’s dive right in!

Water Testing Methods

Modern chemistry has made it really easy to detect a variety of chemicals in water, no matter how small their concentration is. There is a growing list of testing kits that you can use at home to give you a good sense of the quality of your tap water.

However, for in-depth analysis of water, you can send samples to a water testing lab and they’ll give you a detailed breakdown of all the contaminants in your water.

Here are a few easy, low-tech, and portable test formats that you can consider for your tap water testing.

Water Testing Kits

You can get small and single-use test strips to check the quality of your tap water. These strips change colour to show the presence of certain chemicals in your water.

Each test indicates different elements, and based on that; you can dip the test strip in your water sample. Some strips instruct you to hold the strip under running tap water.

Just follow the instructions on the test kit and study the colour chart that comes with it to understand your test results when the strip changes colour. These tests are simple, with a high chance of inaccurate results if you don’t follow the instructions to the dot.

They can give you a good idea of the quality of your tap water at a minimal cost.

Water Testing with Digital Instruments

There are several small and portable digital instruments to test your water, such as colourimeters and photometers, etc. If you’re self-testing your tap water and have an understanding of testing instruments, then this is the most reliable, accurate method of doing it.

The results of these instruments are most accurate when you understand calibration and have access to batteries. However, it is not a suitable method for a person with no previous experience or understanding of the digital instruments used for testing.

It is very important to test your tap water before you begin using it for drinking or food preparation.

Ideally, you should take a few samples to a lab and complete a thorough examination. However, you can also use home testing methods to get a general sense of the quality of your tap water.
